Questions
What are the benefits of studying at Warwickshire College instead of a university?
At Warwickshire College, we keep classes small to ensure that you have a much higher level of contact with tutors. We have an excellent reputation as a provider of higher education vocational courses. Our excellent industry links mean that we know what employers are looking for in graduates. You will benefit from gaining a sound knowledge of your chosen industry, relevant work placement experience, helpful industry contacts and sometimes even job offers!
What is it like studying at Warwickshire College?
Warwickshire College is quite a cosmopolitan place, with students of all ages and many different nationalities studying here. In terms of study, you will find that tutors are highly qualified and experienced in their fields. They will encourage you to do your best, provide support and help you to develop your career goals. The College also has high quality, specialist educational facilities – some of which are listed as amongst the best in the country.
What is the student life like?
The Student Association organises a wide range of social and sporting events and our Moreton Morrell Centre has a student bar (at real student prices!). We offer many services too. Our friendly Student Services team are here to give you advice and guidance about career choices, cash problems, job hunting and many other things. If you decide to move into local accommodation, we can help you to find a suitable place, whether that be a shared house or halls of residence.
How can I get help deciding what to study?
Don’t worry, many students aren't sure which Higher Education course to choose. If you need more information and help making your choice, pop into Student Services at any of our centres and book an appointment with one of the College's Connexions Personal Advisers. They will offer you advice and guidance and help you to reach a decision that is right for you.
What careers help do you offer after I have finished all my studies?
Your personal tutor will help you to develop ideas whilst you are studying, so you're not left 'high and dry' once you graduate. Advisers in Student Services and Connexions are also on hand to help you plan your next step, so you can move forward confidently.
Do you offer Disabled Students Allowances (DSAs) in Higher Education?
DSAs can be awarded to full-time and part-time undergraduate students depending on their specific learning disability. Your local authority will normally be responsible for assessing whether you are eligible to receive DSAs and how much you will receive. To find out more information visit Student Services at any centre for a booklet and application form.
What if I don’t have the right qualifications?
Accreditation of Prior learning
Many of our students have undertaken some kind of learning since school or college. If you have done a course – perhaps started a degree and dropped out or have had professional development with your work, you may be able to use this learning to count towards your qualification. This is called accreditation of prior learning.
You may have been keeping accounts for your partner’s business and now want to gain a qualification. Many of our courses have business modules and we may be able to accredit a finance module against those years of accounting. This is accreditation of experiential learning.
For both types of accreditation, we need evidence of the learning and it has to map against one or more of the set learning outcomes of your course. If you think you may be eligible, please ask your course tutor.
