ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)
If English is not your main language, you can do a course to help you improve your English. These courses are called ESOL or English for Speakers of other Languages.
Improving your English will help you:
• In your day to day life, e.g. shopping
• Get a job or improve your career opportunities
• Understand the laws and customs of the UK
• Do a course and get a qualification
ESOL courses will improve:
• Speaking and listening
• Reading and writing
• Vocabulary
• Punctuation and grammar
Fees
ESOL learners will be charged for their classes at an hourly rate of £2.70. This new Government ruling applies to permanent UK residents and EU learners. Asylum seekers and refugees will be entitled to classes depending on eligibility. ALL learners will have to pay £16.00 per term for exam fees and registration before they can be entered for exams. This must be paid at enrolment.
If you are claiming income-based benefits you will be entitled to FREE classes. Benefit evidence must be provided at enrolment.
Students aged 16-18 get FREE classes too.
